Mik grew up in a moderately sized town that served as a crossroads for regional trade. Mik’s father was a tariff officer and placed a high value on education, paying for a local retired wizard to provide private tutoring. This suited Mik just fine, being naturally very bright and observant, as well as unfond of manual labor.
This probably would have continued until Mik finally realized that the old wizard had very little left to actually teach, but the local governing body decided to go to war and so drafted all the able bodies in the area to march off to fight. It was a bit of a challenge adapting to wearing the standard issue leather armor that was the uniform, but being a quick study helped in this regard and soon it was like wearing regular clothes. During the long march toward their intended campaign, a fellow conscript questioned Mik’s seeming distain for weapons; a few choice words and a wave of a staff sent the fool flying out of the mess tent with a nasty concussion. Upon reaching their destination, the troops discovered that the political climate had shifted during their march, and the war was already over. They were simply told to go home. Seeing an opportunity to see the world, Mik decided to instead to forget his boring old town and travel on.
Naturally bright and surprisingly tough, Mik tends to approach things head on. Even in something as intellectual and subtle as magic, the effect is more like wielding a ton of bricks
